Full Text Formats

Full text documents are generally displayed in one of two electronic formats:

  1. HTML (hypertext markup language) – this format is used to create web pages. In databases it may be identified as “text” or “html”.

  2. PDF (portable document format) – In databases it may be identified as PDF or PDF format.

HTML documents

  • display as web pages
  • are faster to download and print
  • may not display graphics
  • page numbering may vary from the original document

PDF documents

  • display in original print format and include graphics
  • include original pagination
  • may take longer to download and print
  • require Adobe Acrobat Reader software for viewing
  • are preferable to use when citing specific pages of the document in your assignment
