Introduction

Databases enable you to identify, locate and obtain information resources across a wide range of disciplines, and to search on very specific and detailed topics. For example, databases can be used to find journal articles and chapters in books.

Becoming proficient in using electronic databases equips you with a powerful and indispensable research skill.

Macquarie University Library provides access to an extensive but carefully selected list of electronic databases on a range of subject areas relevant to the teaching and research at this University.

This module will introduce you to the range of databases available and show you how to search a database by performing simple keyword searches.

Before working through this module, it is necessary that you complete the module Developing a Search Strategy.
