Maps and Atlases

There are a large number of international maps freely available on the web, and the quality and detail varies greatly.

Using a search engine will retrieve some sites where copies of maps are freely available, in addition to many commercial products.

Using one of the directories listed below should result in a more structured and efficient search, and will demonstrate the range of information that is available in map format.

  • Maps and Images of Australia Geoscience
    http://www.agso.gov.au/map/
    Includes maps of the Australian continent, scanned 1:250 000 geological survey maps and selected landmarks
  • University of Texas (UT) Library online: Perry-Castaòeda Library Map Collection
    http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/
    An electronic collection of maps which are mostly in the public domain, and therefore able to be printed from this website. Read the Maps FAQ for information about the collection, and for instructions on how to re-size large files.
