Citing Acts

The full citation of a Statute (or Act) follows the format:

  • The short title (or common name) of the Act (in italics) followed by the date the Act was passed

  • The Jurisdiction, abbreviated and in parentheses (eg. Cth for Commonwealth; NSW for New South Wales)

  • If the citation includes a specific section of the Act then this will be written in one of the following ways:

    section x (where x = the section number)
    secx
    sx
    s x
