Citing Bills

The format for a reference to a Bill usually consists of:

  • the short title. Note that no part of the citation is italicised

  • the date

  • the jurisdiction, abbreviated and in parentheses

The parts making up the text of the Bill are called clauses. If referring to a particular clause this should be added to the citation in one of the following ways:

  • Australian Heritage Council Bill 2000 (Cth), cl 6

  • Clause 6 of the Australian Heritage Council Bill 2000 (Cth)
