Introduction
The previous module, Finding Library Materials,
looked at ways of finding known materials (such as books
and journal articles listed in your Unit Outline) using the Catalogue,
and e-Reserve.
When preparing an assignment task, you may need to find additional
research material that is not listed in the course Reading
Lists provided by Academic staff.
In order to find background information and further research on
a topic, it is useful to use the Catalogue to find
books for a broad coverage of a topic.
For up-to-date and detailed research it becomes essential to use
the electronic bibliographic databases to search
for journal articles.
The Library's databases are used for identifying, locating and
obtaining information and research resources across all discliplines
of study. Becoming proficient in using these databases equips students
with a powerful and indispensible research tool.
This module, Developing a Search Strategy outlines
logical research steps in preparation for searching for new and
unknown resources using:
- Catalogue or
- Databases or
- Search Engines on the Internet
