Field Searching

“How do I search using the author field?”

A field is one part of a record that contains specific information, for example the title, or subject, or author, or publication year.

Searching within a specific field is a useful way of narrowing a search result.

Databases present different default options for field searching.

Searching using field searching

Select Library home page and follow the steps

  1. Navigate to the PsycINFO database

  2. Click on the link marked More Fields

  3. Tick the Authors field and search for Butler Jeff.

Searching tips

When searching using the Search Fields option specific fields may be chosen from the full list as required. All fields can also be selected.

When searching using the author field look for all variations of a name e.g. Pinto, A , Pinto Anthony
